Scott Falmlen, Principal

 
 

Falmlen has an extensive record of success in managing major political and public policy efforts.

 
 

 

For over twenty years, Scott Falmlen has advised governors, congressional and legislative leaders, and other elected officials at all levels.  He has also consulted on competitive state and local elections across the nation.

 

Most recently, Falmlen served as a consultant and spokesperson for the Alliance for North Carolina, an independent organization that raised over $4 million and that news outlets in North Carolina credited with playing a significant role in the 2008 election of Governor Bev Perdue.  He also served as a member of President Barack Obama’s North Carolina Steering Committee, providing insight and counsel for the campaign.

 

Falmlen served as the executive director of the North Carolina Democratic Party from 1999-2005, and served as the Party’s statewide coordinated campaign director in 2006.  During his tenure, he helped lead the effort for the election and re-election of North Carolina’s governor. He also played an integral role in successful legislative and congressional redistricting efforts that led to expanded Democratic representation in the United States Congress and the North Carolina General Assembly.

 

From 2001-2005, Falmlen served as president of the Association of State Democratic Executive Directors, building a national network of political and policy contacts.

 

Falmlen is an acknowledged authority on campaign finance laws and has proven adept at identifying creative ways to take advantage of all available campaign finance options.

 

Falmlen has provided analysis on politics and policy to various media outlets, including major North Carolina newspapers, television and radio news organizations, public affairs programs and forums, and national organizations such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and Fox News.

 

Prior to his work in North Carolina, Falmlen served as executive director of the Florida Democratic Party.  He also served as external affairs/political director for Florida Governor Lawton Chiles, and as chief of staff to the majority leader of the Florida Senate.

 

Scott Falmlen received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Minors in Business and History from Georgetown College.

 

 

Morgan Jackson, Principal

 
 

Jackson is a veteran of a number of high profile political efforts and possesses a vast network of relationships with national, state, and local elected officials and policy makers.

 
 

 

During his career, Jackson has served in senior roles with presidential candidates, a US Senator, the NC Lieutenant Governor, the NC Attorney General, several members of the US House of Representatives, and the state Democratic Party.

 

In 2008, Jackson oversaw the successful Primary and General Election campaigns for Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton.  After the election, he led Dalton’s transition effort dealing with state agencies on organizational and budgeting issues and working to hire senior staff.  In addition, Jackson was a senior advisor to the campaign of Attorney General Roy Cooper, who received more votes than any candidate in North Carolina history.  He also served on President Barack Obama’s North Carolina Steering Committee.

 

From 2005-2006, Jackson served as a special assistant to Attorney General Roy Cooper where he managed the department’s community outreach efforts, including numerous consumer education and public awareness campaigns.

 

From 2001-2004, Jackson served as a senior advisor to John Edwards in both his US Senate office and in his campaign for President and Vice President.  In the campaign, he served as deputy national political director and later led the Kerry-Edwards effort in North Carolina during the General Election.

 

Jackson’s earlier professional experience includes work with US Congressmen Mel Watt, Bill Hefner, and Charlie Rose, as well as work with the North Carolina Democratic Party, where he served as director of party affairs.

 

Jackson brings a unique knowledge of the political landscape in North Carolina.  He also has extensive experience dealing with national and state media and is frequently a named and unnamed source of information and commentary for numerous media outlets, including The New York Times, Politico, The News and Observer, The Charlotte Observer, other North Carolina newspapers, television and radio news organizations.

 

Morgan Jackson received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in History from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

 

 

Jason Sulham, Senior Associate

 
 

Jason Sulham has played a key role in numerous state and federal political campaigns and possesses valuable experience in both government service and issue advocacy.

 
 

 

Since 1999, Sulham has worked extensively in high profile political efforts from New Hampshire to North Carolina. As the senior associate at Nexus Strategies, he continues to advise elected officials, candidates and political committees at the federal, state, and local level.

 

In addition to Sulham’s diverse political work, he has advised corporations and non-profit organizations and utilized his experience and expertise to implement public relations projects on their behalf that have achieved tangible results.

 

Sulham has also taken a lead role in the firm in the design and production of internet and printed communications including website development, campaign literature and direct mail.

 

In 2008, Sulham managed his third successive record setting re-election campaign for US Congressman Bob Etheridge. The victory gave Etheridge a seventh term in Congress and a coveted seat on the House Ways and Means Committee.

 

Prior to joining Nexus Strategies, Sulham served on Governor Mike Easley’s re-election campaign staff. He has also managed projects for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the North Carolina Democratic Party.  In addition, Sulham has worked with the New Hampshire General Assembly and the Massachusetts Department of Education.

 

Jason Sulham graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Minor in Criminal Justice.

 

Seth Dearmin, Associate

 
 

Dearmin has been active in North Carolina politics working on several statewide campaigns and as an advisor to leadership at the University of North Carolina System.

 
 

 

Seth Dearmin has worked on North Carolina political campaigns, including campaigns for lieutenant governor, attorney general, and state treasurer, in positions ranging from grassroots organizer to fundraiser.

 

Prior to joining Nexus Strategies, Dearmin worked at the North Carolina Department of Justice in the office of Attorney General Roy Cooper, serving as a liaison to the General Assembly, developing policy proposals, and assisting North Carolinians in resolving consumer protection issues.

 

In addition, Dearmin has worked for the University of North Carolina system, working with President Erskine Bowles on economic development, legislative, and policy issues. During his time with the system, he helped formulate a new long-range plan, known as the University of North Carolina Tomorrow Initiative.

 

Dearmin is active in the community where he currently serves on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle and as an advisor to the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he volunteers time at his alma mater as a member of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Student Affair’s Advisory Board and as the co-chair of the Triangle Young Alumni Council through the University’s Development Office.

 

Seth Dearmin received a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  During his time at UNC, he served as student body president and as a member of the University’s board of trustees.
